How to choose the perfect wedding rings

hs_jewellers_box_16_grande_7_grandeGetting married is a massive milestone in your life and a very exciting and busy time too.  Weddings require endless planning and lots and lots of decisions need to be made by the happy couple.  From wedding decor to dresses, cakes and flowers to venues and food, the list just goes on and on.  Although a lot of the decisions you make in the run up to your wedding are going to be to do with that one special day, there’s one buying decision you’ll need to make that will be with you for the rest of your live; that is which wedding rings you choose.

It used to be tradition that the man would pick and pay for the woman’s wedding ring and vice versa, wedding rings were also traditionally plain gold or silver bands.  However contemporary views about wedding rings are much more relaxed and it is a matter of personal preference between the couple how they go about choosing their wedding rings.  This is our guide on things to consider when choosing the perfect wedding rings.

Style of the rings

The style of the rings that you choose is all very much down to each of your personal tastes and styles, you’ll be wearing it every day for the rest of your life so it’s important that you love it!  Some couples like to get matching wedding rings, but again this is down to personal preference.  Wedding rings now come in a variety of different metals including platinum, gold, titanium, silver and two-tone.  Make sure that you choose a colour metal that will go well with your style and that you’re not going to get bored with.  The traditional shape for a wedding ring is a simple band, but wedding rings now come in a variety of different styles including more unusual shaped rings.

Make sure that you have found out each of your ring sizes before you make your purchase, don’t try to guess as it can be inconvenient getting your ring resized and can incur extra costs.  Remember that your fingers do swell up slightly when it’s warm and then reduce in size again when it’s cold so it’s best to measure your finger a couple of times at different times in the day just to make sure you get the right size.  At HS Jewellers we will send you out a free ring sizer if you request one to make sure that you’re buying the right size first time.

When to buy

It’s best to make sure that you’ve bought the wedding rings a few months before your big day so that you’re not panicking close to your wedding day if your ring turns out to need resizing.
